Speldhurst used to comprise of a number of Manors, including the Manor of Hollond/Holland, and the name still exists in a number of places in Langton Green.

In Kent Archives, we found a 1609 survey by Richard, Earl of Dorset. The surveyors charged with the survey and compiling the ‘estate terrier’ included Thomas Marshall – an eminent surveyor at the time and connected directly to the famous ‘Buckhurst Terrier, as well as Knole.

Research is underway to link the people and places in the survey from the time of Elizabeth I to the present day. Notable land ‘copyholders’ at the time included Sir Richard Chiverton, a Skinner who was Lord Mayor of London and occupied Ferbies in Speldhurst.
