In the eighteen century, it was extraordinary for a female to progress in many facets of life but in the world of ornithology, she became a pioneer of bird photography. Born in Langton Green in Speldhurst Parish in 1867, she took up the camera and went on to write eight books on the subject, travelled widely giving lectures and was awarded The Royal Photographic Society Gold Medal. A considerable achievement.
