History in the making …… on the Kent/Sussex border

Speldhurst used to comprise of a number of Manors, including the Manor of Hollond/Holland, and the name still exists in a number of places in Langton Green. In Kent Archives, we found a 1609 survey by Richard, Earl of Dorset. The surveyors charged with the survey and compiling the ‘estate terrier’ included Thomas Marshall – an eminent surveyor at the time and connected directly to the famous ‘Buckhurst Terrier, as well as Knole.  Research is underway to link the people and pl
